What Onboarding Looks Like at Silverspin
Starting a new job is a little bit like the first day of school.
You’re excited. Slightly nervous. Wondering if you’ll remember everyone’s name. Wondering if you’re overdressed. Wondering where the coffee machine is.
At Silverspin, we get it.
That’s why we’ve built an onboarding experience that’s designed to feel less like a process… and more like a welcome.
From the moment someone accepts an offer, we want them to feel part of the team already, not like they’re waiting in limbo until day one arrives.
As we continue to grow, creating a warm, supportive, and genuinely human onboarding experience has become something we care deeply about.
Because people remember how you make them feel long before they remember where the printer is.
Before Day One: Staying Connected
One thing we really try to avoid at Silverspin is the “see you in three weeks” silence that can sometimes happen after an offer is signed.
You know the one.
You accept the job, celebrate with your family and friends… and then suddenly it’s radio silence until your start date.
That’s not our style.
From the moment someone joins us, our People Team stays in touch throughout the onboarding journey .. helping with contracts, relocation support where needed, onboarding tasks, and all the practical bits and pieces along the way.
But more importantly, we check in because we genuinely care about how people are feeling before they start.
Questions are encouraged. Reassurance is encouraged. Even the “probably silly but I’ll ask anyway” questions are encouraged.
We know starting somewhere new can feel overwhelming, so we try to make the experience feel supportive, personal, and exciting from the very beginning.
Day One, But Make It Comfortable
We never want someone’s first day to feel cold, overly corporate, or packed with awkward icebreakers.
No trust falls here.
Instead, day one at Silverspin is designed to help people settle in naturally.
New starters begin with a relaxed coffee morning where they can meet some of the people they’ve spoken to throughout the recruitment process, chat with other new joiners, and ease into the day without pressure.
From there, we help everyone get set up - laptops, systems, office tours, introductions, and all the essentials needed to feel ready and comfortable.
There’s also a dedicated induction session where new starters can learn more about Silverspin as a whole - our story, our brands, our teams, our culture, and how everything connects together across the business.
We believe joining a company is about more than understanding your role. It’s about understanding the bigger picture and feeling connected to it.
And yes, there’s also a company lunch involved because good food makes almost everything less intimidating.
Scientifically proven? Maybe not. Strongly believed by us? Absolutely.
New joiners then spend dedicated time with their manager and team .. getting to know the people they’ll be working closely with and settling into their new environment.
It’s also an opportunity to walk through what the first few weeks will look like, understand their onboarding and training plan, and get clarity on priorities, goals, and support available along the way. Starting a new role always comes with a learning curve, so we try to create space for people to ask questions, take things step by step, and build confidence at their own pace.
Most importantly, we want people to know there’s no expectation to have everything figured out on day one. Nobody is expected to memorise org charts, remember 47 names instantly, or become a BambooHR expert overnight.
The first day is about settling in, meeting people, and starting to feel at home.
Creating a Culture People Can Feel
A lot of companies talk about culture.
We want ours to feel real from the start.
At Silverspin, collaboration, accountability, curiosity, inclusion, and wellbeing are part of how we work every day.
People are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and take initiative from the beginning. We genuinely believe the best work happens when people feel trusted, supported, and comfortable being themselves.
That also means creating space for balance and wellbeing. Whether it’s hybrid working, wellness support, volunteering days, or simply encouraging people to switch off and recharge, we want our teams to feel supported both inside and outside of work.
More Than Just Onboarding
For us, onboarding isn’t just a checklist.
It’s the start of someone’s journey at Silverspin.
It’s the first coffee, the first team lunch, the first “you’re still on mute,” the first big win, and the first moment someone starts feeling like they truly belong here.
And honestly? That feeling matters.. because when people feel welcomed, supported, and connected from the beginning, great things tend to follow.
Bold Plays. Smart Wins.
