What Actually Happens After You Click Apply?
You’ve found a role. You’ve read the job description. You’ve updated your CV. You’ve probably checked it one more time for a typo that somehow survived the previous 17 checks.
Then you hit Apply.
And now… what actually happens?
There’s a real process behind it. Real people look at it. And no, we don’t print CVs out and throw them down a staircase to see which one lands closest to the Hiring Manager.
Here’s what actually happens.
Step 1: Your CV Lands With Us
Once you apply, your CV comes through to our Talent Acquisition team.
We review your experience, skills and background against what we’re looking for in the role.
There’s no secret algorithm, no robot automatically disqualifying you, and no mysterious CV black hole. Just an actual person taking a proper look at your experience and skills - while also thinking about the potential you could bring to the role.
Step 2: The Hiring Manager Gets Involved
If your profile matches what we’re looking for, we share your CV with the Hiring Manager for a shortlisting review.
Think of it as a second set of eyes from the person who actually knows the team, the role and what success looks like day to day.
If TA and the Hiring Manager both see potential .. You’re through to interview. Cue the calendar!
Step 3: You Pick a Time That Works for You
We’ve all experienced interview scheduling that turns into a 14-email chain.
“Tuesday at 10?”“I can’t do 10.”“How about 11?”“Could we do Wednesday?”“Wednesday is actually a public holiday here.”
Nobody has time for that.
Our interview invitations allow you to self-schedule through Teamtailor, choosing a time from the interviewers’ available slots.
Pick. Click. Done.
You’ll also receive our Candidate Interview Guide which gives you useful information about Silverspin, what to expect, how to prepare, what the next steps may look like and anything else that can help remove some of the mystery before your interview.
You should be able to focus on preparing for the conversation, with a clear idea of what to expect and what comes next, rather than trying to piece together what the process looks like as you go.
Step 4: First Interview - Meet Talent Acquisition
Your first interview will usually be with someone from our Talent Acquisition team.
And despite what the word interview might suggest, our goal isn’t to sit there with a clipboard waiting for you to say the wrong thing.
It’s a conversation.
We want to understand your experience, what you’re looking for next, what interested you in the role and whether there’s a genuine match.
It’s also your chance to interview us.
Want to know what the culture is actually like? Ask.
Want to know how the team works? Ask.
Want to know why the role is open? Definitely ask.
A recruitment process should work both ways. We’re deciding whether you could be right for Silverspin, and you should absolutely be deciding whether Silverspin is right for you.
Step 5: We Keep You Updated
One thing that matters to us throughout the whole process is communication.
We don’t want candidates sitting there wondering whether we’ve forgotten about them.
So we keep you updated along the way - even if the update is simply: “We don’t have an update yet.”
Sometimes Hiring Managers need a little more time. Sometimes interviews are still ongoing. Sometimes decisions take longer than expected.
That happens, but silence shouldn’t be part of the process.
Candidate experience is one of our top priorities, and keeping people informed is a big part of that.
You’ve taken the time to apply, prepare and speak with us, so the least we can do is make sure you know where things stand.
Step 6: The Feedback Bit
After your interview, we gather feedback and come back to you with an update.
If you’re moving forward, brilliant - your next conversation will usually be with the Hiring Manager. If you’re not, we’ll tell you that too.
No disappearing into the mist. No waiting three months and eventually assuming the answer yourself.
Where possible, we’ll also explain the reasoning behind the decision, because “unfortunately, we will not be progressing” with zero context isn’t particularly useful feedback.
Step 7: Meet the Hiring Manager
Now we get into the good stuff.
Your Hiring Manager interview will usually go deeper into your experience, the actual work you’d be doing and how you approach situations relevant to the role.
It’s also the point where you can really dig into what working on the team would look like.
What does success look like in the first six months? What are the biggest challenges? How does the team work together? What would I actually be doing on a random Tuesday afternoon?
Ask whatever you need to ask.
Ideally, nobody should reach offer stage still wondering what they’ve actually applied for.
Step 8: There Might Be a Task
Depending on the role, we may include a practical task, technical assessment or case study.
May being the important word here - not every role has one.
The idea isn’t to give you homework for the sake of it.
A task can sometimes tell us things an interview simply can’t: how you think, how you approach a problem and what your work actually looks like in practice.
For some roles, you may also present the task during your final interview.
And don’t worry - we’ll tell you what’s expected beforehand.
There will be no surprise request to “just quickly prepare a 60-minute presentation for tomorrow morning.”
Step 9: The Final Interview
If the role includes a final stage, you may meet additional members of the team or wider business.
You might discuss your task, go deeper into certain areas or simply use the time to make sure both sides have everything they need to make a decision.
By this point, we’ve usually spoken quite a lot.
We know you. You know us.
Your calendar knows Silverspin extremely well.
Now it’s decision time.
Step 10: The Call Everyone Likes Making 🎉
If everything aligns…
It’s offer time.
We’ll get in touch, talk you through the offer and explain exactly what happens next.
This is, unsurprisingly, a very enjoyable part of working in Talent Acquisition.
Even better when someone accepts approximately four minutes later! (yes, it does happen!)
And from there, all those interview invites start turning into onboarding ones.
And If It’s a No?
Of course, not every process ends with an offer.
Sometimes another candidate has experience that’s slightly closer to what the team needs.
Sometimes the role simply isn’t quite the right match.
Sometimes it’s genuinely just timing.
But if you’re not moving forward, we make sure you know.
We’ll send you a rejection and, where possible, explain the reasoning behind our decision.
And with your consent, we can also keep your profile in our candidate database.
Why? Because the right candidate and the right vacancy don’t always appear at exactly the same time.
If another opportunity comes up later that looks like a strong match, we can reach out - which means you may be one of the first people to hear about it.
A no for one role doesn’t necessarily mean a no to Silverspin.
So… What Actually Happens After You Click Apply?
Quite a bit, as it turns out.
Your CV gets reviewed.
The Hiring Manager takes a look.
You choose your interview time.
We send you information to help you prepare.
You meet TA.
You meet the Hiring Manager.
There may be a task.
There may be a final interview.
We keep you updated throughout - including when the update is that there’s no update yet.
And if everything lines up, hopefully there’s an offer at the end of it.
But more importantly, there are actual humans behind every stage of the process.
Candidate experience is a top priority for us.
Job hunting is stressful enough without wondering whether anyone has even seen your application, whether the process has stalled, or whether you’ve simply been forgotten.
So we try to keep things clear, transparent and human from the moment you click Apply to the moment you receive a final decision.
